From the President's Desk

Dear Valued Members,

Greetings!

As we embrace the opportunities of a new month, I’m delighted to share with you that our chapter has reached a significant milestone - its 45th anniversary, a testament to our enduring Anthony.pngcommitment to excellence, collaboration, and professional advancement. Over the past four and a half decades, our chapter has blossomed into a vibrant community of project management professionals, with dedication and contributions from our members, volunteers, and sponsors. It’s a joyous moment for all of us to celebrate our chapter’s significant milestone accomplishment. Let’s continue to support and make this PMIGL tree grow for many more years. PMI is planting 500 trees to honor our chapter.

In addition to recognizing our chapter’s remarkable accomplishment, February holds special significance as we observe Black History Month. As project management professionals, we understand the importance of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion to drive innovation, creativity, and excellence in our work. Black History Month serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of cultivating an inclusive environment where every voice is valued, heard, and empowered to succeed!

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in our chapter's journey. Here's to the next 45 years of shared success, growth, and positive impact!

Learning from Fairytales to Understand Project Stakeholders
by William A Moylan, PhD, PMP, FESD, DTMCards-and-tea.JPG

Skip Weisman, a past keynote Symposium speaker for PMI Global and leadership trainer for PMIGLC, recently posted on his blog about an interesting learning experience – his first time reading of the Lewis Carroll classic fairytale Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Weisman, 1/3/2024). In my response, I posted that this children’s book features characters who mirror common personalities found in the storyland of Project Management. The White Rabbit who angsts over being constantly late. The Cheshire Cat who criticizes everything while blending into the background. The Mad Hatter’s tea party with much ado about nothing. The Queen of Hearts with no heart. Does this not mimic obsession over the project schedule without considering reality, the wallflower critics who offer no solutions to the problems at hand, project meetings without any value added, and executives who constantly abuse to cover their personal inadequacies to manage and to lead?

This article will expound on my blog reply dissecting the subject fairytale’s characters and caricatures, and with assistance from Alice, discover how to effectively deal with project stakeholders.

I Can't Believe My Credentials Are Gone!
Submitted by Jonathon Falcon

This Facebook phishing scam starts with a post from a friend that says, “I can’t believe he is gone. I’m gonna miss him so much.” The post contains a link to a news article or video, but when you click the link, you are taken to a web page that prompts you to log in to Facebook. If you enter your information, you are taken to an unrelated page. No news article exists, but scammers have just stolen your Facebook credentials using a phishing attack.

Scammers use compromised Facebook accounts to post these “I can’t believe he is gone” phishing links. The posts appear to come from your friends and family, which makes this phishing attack very convincing. If you fall for their tricks, scammers can then use your Facebook account to post the same message to your friends and family.

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a Facebook phishing attack:

    • When possible, use multi-factor authentication (MFA) as an added layer of security for your accounts. The MFA will prompt you to provide additional verification before logging in, making it more difficult for scammers to compromise your account.
    • A post from a friend may seem trustworthy, but their account could be compromised. Reach out to your friend over the phone or text to verify that their post was legitimate.
    • When you get redirected to a login page, ensure that the domain matches what you are trying to login to. Facebook[.]com is not the same as Facebook[.]Login[.]com. Login[.]com is the true domain you're giving your credentials to.
    • Remember, this type of phishing attack isn’t exclusive to Facebook. Scammers could use this type of attack on any social media platform.
